Sama isn’t your average Japanese curry, but a Sapporo import courtesy of Shiuici Takahashi. In his first restaurant outside of Japan, Takahashi is introducing Hong Kong to Hokkaido’s popular Sapporo-style soup curry. The consistency is unlike thick Japanese curry bases we are accustomed to, but features a fragrant and spicy broth which brings plenty of flavour to it’s accompanying meat and vegetables. We loved that you could customise your soup and spice level, and that there were plenty of topping options for every palate. Our favourites were the extremely tender Marathon Chicken which we had in the tomato soup base and spice level 8 and consisted of chicken leg stretching alongside Sama’s selected assorted vegetables, and their Hungry Bear which we had in coconut soup base and spice level 8 and consisted of chicken leg with pork belly in Sama’s choice of vegetables. Our favourite side was the crunchy and meaty “Spiced Chicken Karaage” deep fried chicken bites topped with lime. A great lunch or dinner spot and welcome variation of a delicious Japanese dish.
