The Pachamanca lunch was one of our favourite experiences while staying at El Albergue Ollantaytambo and a must for those who are interested in the local fare and a fun afternoon for the family. El Albergue house an on site organic farm, coffee roastery, and sugarcane liquor distillery. Book their lunch and not only do you get a mouthwatering meal but an informative tour and cooking demonstration that’s both cultural and mouthwatering.  We loved seeing the beautiful farm, meeting the resident animals and dining in the rustic and beautiful grounds.  Pachamanca is a traditional Peruvian style of cooking where they bury the meat, potatoes, and vegetables on hot stones in the ground to prepare the meal. Our guide was informative about the recipe and cooking process and we loved seeing the dish prepared first hand. The use of spices and high quality of ingredients ensured a delicious meal and the fresh and mouthwatering feast was served family style on the rustic dining table with local juices and their signature coffee. We also enjoyed hearing about how they roast high quality coffee which is served in their restaurants and cafes and the unique distillery producing a variety of liquor. The perfect way for you and your family to immerse in nature, learn about Peruvian fare and traditional food preparation alongside the organic practices of El Albergue’s brand.
