I usually associate congee with flavourless bowls of slushy rice eaten when you are ill, but Sang Kee Congee Shop surpassed all my expectations. Located between the food filled Mercer and Hillier Streets, it’s easy to spot this popular joint due to the never ending line that forms every breakfast and lunch. We went just after the lunch time rush and ordered two bowls alongside a few snacks. I wanted to try more ingredients so went for the beef, fish fillet, and chicken combo. The bowls were very generous and accompanied with aromatic soy sauce and ginger. I delved into the many pieces of chicken and fish all served on the bone. Everything was full of flavour and far from my previous bland impressions of congee. It took me awhile to get through the steaming hot bowl, but everything was so delicious and fresh. I still cannot believe their low price points. The perfect spot for a satisfying hot, affordable meal full of fresh ingredients.
