Hulhulmale, located just a 10 minute drive from Maldives’ International airport, is a great option if you want to see an inhabited island and slices of local life. Unlike staying at one of the big resort islands you’ll have access to shops, buzzing streets and markets, and a chance to try a variety of local eateries. This can be a great way to visit the Maldives on a lower budget.
We stayed at Avoca Inn, just steps from Hulhumale’s long white sand beach. The beach is picturesque, with clear blue waters where families can swim and play. The inviting and welcoming staff greeted us with a welcome drink and ensured we were settled in our cozy and modern room. The service was great throughout our stay, and everyone was eager to make recommendations and assist us with bookings for transportation. The restaurant serves up an all day dining menu and guests also have the option for full board when they stay. We enjoyed the International fare and relaxed setting. You’ll find Diving Centers right on the beach where you can partake in a variety of activities including scuba diving, snorkelling adventures, dolphin tours, sandbank picnics, and so much more. A small children’s park is 5 minutes away if you’re travelling with little ones and we found many fresh fruit stands and fun shops while we explored the town. Avoca Inn also has a tranquil spa where you can book relaxing massages and treatments, perfect after a day on the ocean.
Hulhulmale is a great option for those who want to see the beauty of the Maldives on a more affordable budget or if your international flight arrives late and you require a one night stay before your seaplane transfer in the morning. Avoca Inn offers great service, food, and location on the welcoming island.
