Behind a glowing red door on a quiet Palermo street, Niño Gordo delivers one of Buenos Aires’ most exciting dining experiences, a mash-up of Asian flavours, Argentine ingredients, and over-the-top style. From the neon-lit bar to the retro pop décor, everything feels carefully chaotic in the best way.

We started with the shrimp and kimchi dumplings, crisp on the bottom and silky on top, filled with plump shrimp and just enough kimchi heat to wake up your palate. The sweetbreads were rich and perfectly seared, with a deep, almost smoky caramelization that made them hard to stop picking at.

The steak tataki was a standout, thin slices of rare beef with a raw egg yolk on top that melted into the warm meat and rice. It was luscious and bold, without being heavy. The katsu sando is a must order with the beef coming breaded and fried, tucked inside soft milk bread, with a tangy-sweet sauce that tied it all together.

Last came the Pekín chicken, served with soft crepes, hoisin, scallions, and pickled veggies. The skin was crisp and glossy, the meat tender, and the build-your-own approach made it fun to eat.

At Niño Gordo, nothing feels ordinary, from the plating to the playlist. It’s loud, theatrical, and full of flavor, but behind all the flair is a kitchen that’s precise, thoughtful, and wildly creative. A must visit if you’re in Buenos Aires and hungry for something different, Nino Gordo is Michelin Recommended and was placed No.34 on The Worlds 50 Best LATAM in 2024.
