Dinner at Nouvelle Epoque at The Okura Tokyo was elegant, intimate, and effortlessly romantic, the kind of place that immediately feels right for a special night out. The dining room is refined without being stiff, and the atmosphere strikes a beautiful balance between classic French fine dining and a lighter, more contemporary touch. We chose the tasting menu and settled in for an evening that unfolded with confidence and finesse.

The meal opened with langoustine paired with Oscietra caviar, setting a high bar from the very first course. One of the highlights that followed was the roasted “Mahata” served with cauliflower purée, anchovy, and lemon oil. It was a thoughtful composition, with the richness of the fish lifted by brightness and subtle umami, showcasing the kitchen’s precise touch.

The roasted “Aku ushi” sirloin was another standout. Cooked beautifully and presented Viennese style with a violet mustard sauce. The use of local Japanese ingredients throughout the menu was impressive and felt intentional, allowing French techniques to shine without overpowering the character of the produce.

Dessert came in the form of a delicate tiramisu infused with grappa flavours, light and balanced rather than overly rich, and a lovely way to end the meal. The wine pairing was impeccable from start to finish, with selections that enhanced each course without ever stealing the spotlight.

Service was attentive, warm, and perfectly paced, making the entire experience feel relaxed and personal. Nouvelle Epoque delivers refined French dining with a strong sense of place, and it is an excellent choice for an intimate, memorable date night in Tokyo.
