Karang at AYANA Segara Bali was one of our favourite discoveries during our stay and easily one of the best Indonesian meals we enjoyed in Bali. Set beside the elegant pool at AYANA Segara, the restaurant offers a refined take on traditional Indonesian cuisine, combining authentic regional flavours with beautifully presented dishes and the polished service expected from AYANA.
The setting strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and relaxation. Overlooking the tranquil pool with lush tropical surroundings, Karang feels bright, welcoming, and ideal for a leisurely lunch. We visited as a family and found it to be the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and explore some of Indonesia’s most iconic dishes in a comfortable and approachable setting.
One of the highlights of the meal was the Nasi Campur Segara, a beautifully presented version of Indonesia’s beloved mixed rice dish. Featuring an assortment of carefully prepared accompaniments, it offered a wonderful introduction to the diverse flavours that define Indonesian cuisine. Every component felt thoughtfully prepared, allowing us to sample a variety of textures and regional influences in a single dish.
We also enjoyed the Ayam Bakar Taliwang. The grilled chicken was wonderfully tender and packed with aromatic spices, delivering just the right balance of smokiness and heat. The Babi Kecap was equally memorable, featuring succulent pork coated in a rich, sweet savoury glaze that was incredibly moreish.
Another standout was the Rendang Daging. Slow cooked until beautifully tender, the beef was infused with fragrant spices and coconut, creating deep layers of flavour that showcased why rendang is considered a national treasure.
What impressed us most was how Karang manages to honour traditional Indonesian recipes while presenting them in a way that feels elevated and contemporary. Combined with its relaxed poolside setting, attentive service, and excellent food, it provided the perfect family lunch and one of the most satisfying Indonesian dining experiences of our Bali trip.
