One restaurant we return to time and time again whenever we’re in the UK is Hawksmoor. Hawksmoor has long been one of London’s most celebrated steakhouses, championing traditionally reared, grass-fed British beef sourced from carefully selected farms across the UK. This time we visited Hawksmoor Seven Dials which is nestled in the heart of Covent Garden. The restaurant’s relaxed yet refined atmosphere makes it equally suited to a special celebration or simply an exceptional dinner after a day exploring the area.
One of the things we love most about Hawksmoor is the way they present their steaks. Rather than simply ordering from a fixed menu, your server talks you through the different cuts available that day, explaining the marbling and characteristics of each cut. It creates a wonderfully personal experience and means every visit feels a little different. Their knowledgeable team are equally passionate about the extensive wine list, helping guests find the perfect pairing whether you’re after an everyday favourite or something truly special.
We began with the smoked mackerel salad, which was beautifully fresh with new potatoes, watercress and horseradish, alongside the roasted bone marrow with slow cooked onions, a signature Hawksmoor dish that’s rich, indulgent and impossible to resist. For our mains we shared the succulent half native lobster with garlic butter and a perfectly cooked fillet steak, accompanied by their wonderfully creamy macaroni and cheese, the ultimate steakhouse side.
Every element of the meal reminded us why Hawksmoor remains one of our favourite restaurants in the UK. Outstanding produce, expertly cooked steaks over charcoal, warm and knowledgeable service, and an exceptionally curated wine lists make this somewhere we look forward to returning to on every London visit.
