Blacklock Covent Garden has built quite the reputation among London steak lovers, and after our visit, it is easy to see why. Housed in a cosy basement just moments from the bustle of Covent Garden, the restaurant has a lively, welcoming atmosphere with exposed brickwork, warm lighting and an energetic buzz that makes it equally suited to a relaxed dinner or a special evening out. The service was one of the highlights of our visit, with a genuinely personable team who were knowledgeable, attentive and effortlessly friendly throughout the meal.
We began with the Mushrooms on Toast, a wonderfully rich combination of earthy mushrooms piled generously onto crisp toasted bread. The Pig’s Head on Toast was another standout, meltingly tender with plenty of depth and beautifully balanced richness that never felt overwhelming.
For mains, the quality of the meat truly stole the show. The Lamb and Pork Chops were perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy and full of flavour, showcasing why Blacklock has become such a favourite for traditional British chops. The Dry Aged Rump Cap offered a deep, beefy flavour with wonderful tenderness, while the Dry Aged Rib-Eye delivered everything you could want from a great steak, with beautiful marbling, a perfectly caramelised crust and a succulent centre.
The Steak Caesar Salad was a surprisingly satisfying addition, combining crisp lettuce, creamy dressing and tender slices of steak into a dish that could easily stand on its own. We also loved the Garlic Marrow Spread, an indulgent accompaniment that was impossible to stop spreading onto warm bread. The cocktail menu was equally impressive, with well-crafted classics and house creations, while the thoughtfully curated wine list offers plenty of excellent pairings for the restaurant’s exceptional meat.
To finish, the White Chocolate Cheesecake with Seasonal Berries was light, creamy and beautifully balanced by the freshness of the fruit, providing the perfect ending after such a satisfying feast.
Blacklock combines exceptional quality with an unpretentious atmosphere, warm hospitality and consistently excellent food. It is the kind of restaurant you find yourself wanting to return to, and if you are looking for one of the best steak experiences in Covent Garden, this is undoubtedly one to add to your list.
