Set within the historic Pillar Hall next to Hyatt Regency London Olympia, Idalia is a striking addition to West London’s dining scene. The grand Grade II listed space dates back to 1886, but its latest incarnation feels decidedly contemporary. Designed by Robert Angell, the restaurant takes inspiration from Aphrodite, goddess of beauty, with lush greenery, warm tones, soft lighting and towering marble pillars creating an elegant, almost garden-like setting. Plush seating and intimate corners soften the scale of the impressive room, making it equally suited to a leisurely lunch or evening dinner.
The menu centres around modern British cooking while incorporating international influences, resulting in plenty of familiar favourites alongside more playful flavours.
We started with the Prawn Cocktail, a fresh take on the classic combining prawns with creamy avocado, crisp little gem, paprika and lemon. The Classic Steak Tartare was another favourite, beautifully seasoned and topped with a delicate quail’s egg. For something punchier, the Korean Fried Gochujang Chicken Thigh delivered plenty of flavour, coated in a sticky, spicy glaze with Sriracha mayonnaise, spring onion and sesame.
Our mains continued the mix of British and international influences. Lobster Linguine was generous and comforting, with sweet lobster folded through pasta alongside Datterini tomatoes, chilli, garlic and basil. The Lemon Sole offered a lighter alternative, delicately cooked and paired with brown shrimp, cucumber and parsley, allowing the seafood to remain the focus.
The Idalia Wagyu Burger was juicy and satisfying, accompanied by excellent chunky chips cooked in beef tallow and was a big hit with our children.
Idalia manages to feel glamorous without becoming overly formal. Between the dramatic historic setting, beautifully considered interiors and approachable menu, it is a destination restaurant that complements the newly opened Hyatt Regency London Olympia while also giving locals plenty of reason to visit in its own right.
