Serra brings the sun-soaked flavours of the Mediterranean to The Chancery Rosewood, one of London’s most anticipated new luxury hotels. Set within the beautifully reimagined former US Embassy in Mayfair, the restaurant feels polished yet relaxed, with a menu designed around generous sharing plates, seasonal produce and simple, confident cooking.

We started with Parma ham, served simply with pickles, and the Romano pepper with harissa and freekeh. The sweet roasted pepper worked beautifully with the gentle heat of harissa and nutty grains. The cured trout with blood orange and mint was fresh and delicate, while the halloumi with roasted grapes and black sesame balanced salty, creamy cheese with bursts of sweetness.

The linguine with clams, parsley and white wine delivered exactly the kind of uncomplicated Mediterranean flavours we were hoping for. Silky strands of pasta soaked up the briny clam juices and white wine sauce, making this one of our favourites of the meal.

For mains, corn-fed chicken with Calabrian chilli and garlic was juicy and full of flavour, with just enough chilli warmth. The whole Dover sole with burnt butter and capers was another standout, beautifully cooked and particularly good for sharing. We also tried the veal fillet with green peppercorn sauce, a richer, classic dish with tender meat and a creamy, gently spiced sauce.

Dessert came in the form of Basque cheesecake with roasted apricot. Creamy, lightly caramelised and paired with the tart sweetness of fruit, it was an ideal finish.

With its elegant Mayfair setting, attentive service and approachable Mediterranean menu, Serra is a welcome addition to The Chancery Rosewood and a restaurant that works just as well for a leisurely lunch as it does for an indulgent dinner.
