Onda is a new overwater Mediterranean restaurant at The Standard Maldives, bringing a polished yet relaxed dining experience to the resort. Perched above the lagoon, the restaurant is particularly atmospheric around sunset, when uninterrupted ocean views give way to a softly lit, candlelit setting. The elegant space works equally well for a leisurely dinner or an intimate date night.
The menu centres around Mediterranean flavours, fresh seafood and dishes from the grill, with plenty of options suited to sharing. We began with flatbread topped with anchovy, mozzarella, olives and rocket, a satisfying combination of salty, creamy and peppery flavours. Red snapper crudo was fresh and delicate, while grilled artichokes made for a simple yet flavourful addition to the table.
For pasta, homemade spinach ravioli arrived dressed in brown butter, a richer and more comforting dish that contrasted nicely with the lighter starters. From the grill, beef striploin was cooked beautifully, while a whole butterflied red snapper made an impressive centrepiece. Simply prepared to allow the freshness of the fish to shine, it was particularly well suited to the restaurant’s oceanfront setting and Mediterranean concept.
Onda also offers a well-curated wine list alongside an appealing cocktail selection, making it worth arriving early to enjoy a drink as the sun sets over the water.
Service was excellent throughout our evening, attentive and polished while maintaining the easygoing atmosphere synonymous with The Standard Maldives. With its overwater location, candlelit ambience and seafood-led Mediterranean menu, Onda is a welcome addition to the resort’s dining collection and one of its most atmospheric spots for dinner.
