Set within the spectacular Raffles London at The OWO, Saison by Mauro Colagreco brings the spirit of a grand French brasserie to one of London’s most historic addresses. The restaurant occupies the former library of the Old War Office, transformed into an elegant winter garden beneath a beautiful Edwardian glass roof. The light-filled setting feels glamorous yet relaxed, making it equally suited to a leisurely lunch or celebratory dinner.
The restaurant is overseen by acclaimed chef Mauro Colagreco, best known for three-Michelin-starred Mirazur on the French Riviera. At Saison, his cooking takes a more relaxed direction, celebrating French brasserie classics with a focus on seasonality and exceptional produce.
We began with Maldon oysters, brightened with lemon and mignonette sauce, alongside escargots persillade, topped with fragrant parsley and garlic breadcrumbs. The prawn cocktail was a beautifully executed classic with crisp iceberg lettuce and Marie Rose sauce, and the beef tartare was perfectly prepared table side.
For mains, the skate with sauce meunière served on the bone, was rich and buttery. The Duroc pork chop from Redhill Farm was another standout, as was the perfectly cooked 200g filet mignon from Earl Stonham Farm. We also couldn’t resist Churchill’s Roast Beef, a fitting dish to enjoy within the walls of the former Old War Office.
Dessert was a classic apple tart with crème fraîche ice cream, rounding off an indulgent evening.
The wine pairing was seamlessly orchestrated throughout the meal, with each glass thoughtfully complementing the dishes. Service was exceptional from beginning to end, warm, knowledgeable and incredibly attentive without ever feeling overly formal.
Saison strikes a wonderful balance between the familiarity of a classic French brasserie and the polished luxury expected of Raffles. With its impressive setting, outstanding service and beautifully executed menu, it’s an especially memorable choice for a celebration in London.
