Kakuni is JA Manafaru’s relaxed all-day dining restaurant, set amongst the island’s lush tropical greenery and serving an extensive selection of international and Maldivian dishes from morning through to dinner. Breakfast combines a fresh buffet selection with an impressive made-to-order à la carte menu, making it easy to linger over a leisurely start to the day.
We particularly loved the breakfast sets, with both the Maldivian and Indian options standing out for their authentic flavours, generous portions and beautiful presentation. Everything we tried felt carefully prepared and consistently high quality, while the wide selection meant there was plenty of choice for both adults and children.
Lunch at Kakuni is equally varied, with an à la carte menu spanning familiar international favourites alongside lighter dishes and local flavours. Our favourites included the crispy chicken katsu, perfectly grilled reef fish, classic Caesar salad and incredibly moreish popcorn chicken. It became an easy choice for relaxed family lunches, especially when everyone wanted something different.
Kakuni also hosts JA Manafaru’s weekly themed evenings, which transform the restaurant into a more atmospheric dining experience. The traditional Maldivian Malaafaiy and Asian-themed evenings were particular highlights during our stay. Generous sharing platters arrive at the table, encouraging everyone to taste a little of everything, while live music and traditional performances bring an added sense of occasion. The combination of excellent food, warm service and lively entertainment made these some of our most memorable evenings on the island.
