Set above KU DE TA’s trendy beach club is Mejekawai, loosley translated to mean “Sacred Table”, which is exactly what Mejekawi embodies. We were instantly drawn to the stunning wraparound windows displaying Seminyak’s stunning ocean view, and we highly recommend arriving in time for sunset as this is a great accent to the dining experience. The sleek space features an open kitchen at its centre and offers 5 and 12 course tasting menus utilizing the best local produce available and innovative culinary techniques. We enjoyed starting with a few amuse bouche including the “Fish and Chips”, featuring fresh Yellow Fin Tuna, Smoked Creme Fraiche, Pickled Onion and Dill and the Suckling Pig Terrine with Pickled Palm Heart and Sourdough Crisp. One of our favourite courses was the insanely fragrant and flavourful “Sop Buntut” Oxtail Soup with Dashi, Tomato, Raisin and Charred Onion. The main courses were the star dishes with melt in your mouth Black Cod expertly cooked over coals with Roasted Chilli Paste, Jicama, Apple & Lime, and the very juicy and tender Slow Roasted Lamb Rack with Ferntip & Toasted Coconut Salad, Sambal Matah & Rendang Juice. Each course was perfectly paired with a recommended wine from their sommelier which complimented the flavours and textures in every unique dish. We also recommend sampling a cocktail from their technical menu and experience the refreshing bursts of flavours. A must visit while in Bali and the ideal date night if you love fine dining and spectacular views.
