Kicho, located at the heart of Central Hong Kong, serves authentic Japanese yakitori in a relaxed and traditional setting. We loved the bar seating creating an interactive and engaging dining experience. The predominately Japanese culinary team is led by veteran group chef Chikashi Yoshida who is well known as a yakitori kappo specialist with successful branches in both Ebisu and Ginza Tokyo. The restaurant follows an authentic comb-to-claw dining ritual highlighting the signature charcoal-grilled chicken skewers while adding the flair of serving the signature dishes in an omakase dining format.
We loved the well thought out menu allowing us to sample a variety of flavours, parts of the chicken, and different Japanese cooking techniques. Kicho’s First Anniversary menu is a must try for foodies and truly shows why the intimate restaurant has seen such success in the HK dining scene.
We started with a light and fragrant Chicken Soup with Minced Chicken Meatball before moving on to the delicate and juicy Chicken Neck Skewer. The Tenderloin Hand Roll topped with Salmon Roe and Wasabi was a burst of flavours and textures and we loved the Charcoal Chicken Breast topped with Tosa Vinegar Jelly and Mullet Roe.
Other highlights included the flavourful melt in your mouth Chicken Liver, indulgent Stewed Chicken Thigh and Tosaka with Steamed Egg Custard and Crab Meat Sauce, fragrant Kicho special slow-cooked Ramen Soup and the decadent Soboro Don served with Truffle and Egg Yolk. Add Kicho’s Free Flow Sake to your meal and sample seven different varieties of unique and delicious sakes which pair perfectly with the mouthwatering tasting menu. The service was friendly and informative explaining the ingredients and recipes for every course. A must dine spot for authentic Japanese yakitori in buzzing HK.
