For an authentic taste of Indonesia’s extraordinary culinary heritage, few settings are as memorable as The Warung at Alila Villas Uluwatu. Perched above the dramatic cliffs of Uluwatu, this sophisticated open air restaurant draws inspiration from the traditional Indonesian warung while presenting beloved regional recipes with refined technique, exceptional ingredients, and impeccable attention to detail. The result is a dining experience that feels both deeply rooted in tradition and unmistakably luxurious.

We gathered here for a relaxed family dinner overlooking the ocean, where warm, intuitive service made the evening feel effortlessly special from beginning to end. To start, the Lawar Kuwir showcased the vibrant flavours and textures that define Balinese cuisine, while the Pepes Ikan Kuning arrived beautifully fragrant, delicately steamed in banana leaf with aromatic local spices.

For our mains, the Bebek Goreng was wonderfully crisp with tender, succulent meat beneath its golden skin, while the Iga Babi Bakar Kecap delivered beautifully caramelised sweet soy flavours balanced by gentle smokiness. The Beef Rendang was another standout, slow cooked until meltingly tender with an aromatic blend of herbs and spices that reflected the depth and complexity of this much loved Indonesian classic.

One of our favourite touches throughout the meal was the thoughtfully curated selection of sambals, each offering its own distinctive character, from bright and fresh to deeply smoky and intensely spicy. Sampling the different varieties alongside each dish added another layer to the experience and highlighted the incredible diversity of Indonesian flavours.

Beautifully executed cuisine, heartfelt hospitality, and one of Bali’s most breathtaking cliffside settings combine to make The Warung an essential dining experience for anyone looking to discover Indonesian cooking at its finest.
