Located just moments from Padang Padang Beach, KALA Uluwatu brings a fresh taste of the Mediterranean to Bali’s Bukit Peninsula. The beautifully minimalist dining room creates an effortlessly stylish setting, while the lively atmosphere and warm hospitality make it equally suited to a relaxed lunch or a memorable evening with friends and family. Inspired by the flavours of Greece, the menu centres around wood fired cooking, quality ingredients and generous sharing plates that encourage everyone to dig in together.
We started with cocktails, and both the Mezcal Negroni and the Spicy Margarita were exceptional. Beautifully balanced and full of character, they were the perfect way to begin the meal. The flatbread quickly became an instant favourite, arriving warm from the oven with a wonderfully chewy texture that made it almost impossible to stop reaching for another piece.
The grilled octopus was another highlight, perfectly tender with a smoky char, paired beautifully with a vibrant peperonata sauce that added sweetness and depth without overpowering the seafood. For our main, the slow cooked lamb shoulder was everything you hope for from Mediterranean comfort food. Rich, meltingly tender and full of flavour, it was served alongside chickpeas and potatoes that soaked up every bit of the delicious juices. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared while remaining relaxed and unfussy.
From the inviting atmosphere to the excellent cocktails and flavour packed food, KALA is exactly the kind of neighbourhood restaurant every destination wishes it had. It is a place we would happily return to on every visit to Uluwatu.
