Summer Palace at Shangri-La Nanshan Shenzhen is an elegant destination for refined Cantonese dining, blending timeless culinary traditions with contemporary flair. Inspired by the Chinese verse “a phoenix comes and inhabits on sycamore trees only,” the interiors are rich in warm tones, intricate detailing and understated luxury, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming setting. Beautifully appointed dining rooms and elegant private spaces make it equally suited to family celebrations, leisurely lunches or business occasions, while the menu showcases classic Cantonese and Chaoshan cuisine alongside thoughtful modern touches.

Our meal began with the iced tomatoes, a wonderfully refreshing appetiser that balanced natural sweetness with delicate acidity, followed by the morel mushroom and bamboo fungus stew. Light yet deeply flavourful, the nourishing broth highlighted the earthy aroma of the premium mushrooms without ever feeling heavy.

The crispy chicken was another standout, arriving with perfectly golden skin that shattered with every bite while the meat remained remarkably tender and juicy. Equally memorable was the baked yellow croaker with basil bean paste, where fragrant basil and savoury fermented bean paste enhanced the delicate fish without overpowering its freshness. The sweet and sour pork was everything this Cantonese classic should be, featuring crisp, caramelised pieces coated in a glossy sauce that achieved just the right balance between tangy and sweet.

To finish, we shared the handmade noodles with black truffle and meat sauce. The springy noodles were freshly prepared and coated in a rich, deeply savoury sauce, while the aroma of black truffle added an indulgent finishing touch. From the elegant surroundings to the polished service and beautifully executed dishes, Summer Palace delivers a refined Cantonese dining experience that feels both authentic and contemporary.
