Rising above Shenzhen Bay, Shangri-La Nanshan, Shenzhen is one of the city’s most impressive new luxury hotels. Occupying the upper floors of the striking Huiyun Center, the hotel embraces an “above the clouds” concept, pairing panoramic city and bay views with elegant interiors inspired by Lingnan gardens. Natural materials, warm tones and sophisticated design create a peaceful retreat that feels worlds away from the bustle below, while the hotel offers excellent facilities including a temperature controlled indoor swimming pool, a spacious fitness centre, luxurious spa and an exclusive Executive Lounge.

We stayed as a family of four in an Executive Suite, which was an exceptional choice for travelling with children. The separate living room featured a generous sofa bed, giving everyone plenty of space to spread out after a day exploring Shenzhen, while floor-to-ceiling windows framed spectacular views across the skyline. The bedroom felt wonderfully luxurious, and the oversized marble bathroom, complete with a deep soaking tub, became the perfect place to unwind each evening.

One of our favourite perks was access to the Executive Lounge. It offered a peaceful atmosphere throughout the day with breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and beautifully presented canapés, making it an indulgent extension of the suite. We also enjoyed breakfast at Café 66, where an extensive buffet showcased Chinese, Japanese and Western favourites alongside freshly prepared coffee, juices and made-to-order dishes in a beautiful garden-inspired dining room on the 66th floor. Dinner at the elegant Summer Palace was another highlight, with refined Cantonese cuisine and impeccable service providing one of our favourite meals of the trip.

The location is another major advantage, particularly for families. The hotel is directly connected to RAIL IN, a modern shopping mall filled with restaurants, cafés and entertainment, making it easy to spend an afternoon without venturing far. Our children especially loved Block by Amfun Sports Super Park, where they happily climbed, bounced and tackled obstacle courses for hours. With convenient metro connections, Shenzhen Bay just moments away and excellent family-friendly attractions on the doorstep, Shangri-La Nanshan, Shenzhen combines luxury, comfort and location beautifully, making it an outstanding base for exploring one of China’s most dynamic cities.
