Set on a lush private island surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, The Standard Maldives combines the escapism of a Maldivian retreat with a fun, sociable energy. There is plenty happening throughout the resort, yet it remains easy to find a quiet stretch of beach or settle into the privacy of your own villa, making it particularly well suited to families looking for a balance of relaxation and activities.
We stayed in a Two Bedroom Beach Villa with Private Pool, which offered an incredible amount of space for a family stay. The two bedrooms gave everyone room to spread out, while the generous outdoor area centred around our private pool. Best of all was having direct access to the beach, allowing us to step straight from the villa onto the sand and into the ocean whenever we wanted.
The sprawling main swimming pool is one of the social hubs of the island, surrounded by plenty of space to lounge throughout the day. Away from the pool, there is an extensive line-up of activities including tennis, pool, bicycles for exploring the island and kayaking across the lagoon. Snorkelling excursions were a particular highlight for us. We joined both the nurse shark and turtle excursions and had an incredible time spotting so many of these beautiful creatures in their natural environment. Both trips were memorable family experiences and a wonderful way to discover more of the marine life surrounding the Maldives. The energy continues into the evening with a changing programme of entertainment, from traditional Maldivian dance performances and an impressive fire show to more relaxed evenings such as bingo night at the bar.
For something slower paced, The Standard Spa is set over the water in a wonderfully tranquil location. Alongside a tempting menu of indulgent treatments, the spa features a sauna, hammam and cold plunge, making it somewhere worth lingering well beyond the treatment itself.
Dining is impressively varied. Guduguda elevates traditional Maldivian cuisine in an atmospheric overwater setting, while the new Onda brings Mediterranean flavours, grilled seafood, excellent wines and sunset views. Kula’s ever-changing international buffet features live wok and noodle stations, freshly baked pizzas, pasta and themed evenings spanning seafood and sushi to Maldivian specialities. Beside the main pool, Joos Cafe is the casual choice for comfort food, fresh juices and a cold beer.
We particularly loved The Standard’s generous all-inclusive package, which allowed us to dine across all of these restaurants and included unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day. The kids made the most of the mocktails and milkshakes, while Champagne on the inclusive drinks menu was certainly a highlight for us. Even the villa minibar is included, adding to the wonderfully carefree nature of the experience.
Service was another standout throughout our stay. Our host seemed to answer every message within seconds, whether we had a question or needed something arranged. That attentiveness extended across the resort, with an incredibly welcoming and accommodating team who quickly learned our family and our preferences.
It is this combination of spacious villas, beautiful surroundings, memorable marine experiences, varied dining and genuinely personalised service that makes The Standard Maldives such an enjoyable island escape.
